Braving Atlanta

And we are back! The weeks have been flying by, the calendar tells me it's almost October, and we are experiencing some really lovely temperatures here in the South. Alas, the end of September also means the end of regular season baseball. We hadn't seen a Major League game since May, so we decided to take advantage of our proximity to Atlanta. The Braves were taking on the New York Mets, and the home team still had a chance of making it into the playoffs. That chance has ceased to exist as of Monday, but on Saturday the stadium was filled with excitement!
Our arrival at Turner Field got a bit delayed by some problem with the rooms in our hotel. After standing in line for two hours waiting to get checked in, we hoped for the best, left our bags in the Beetle and headed for the stadium.
Turner Field is very close to some lovely neighborhoods, so there were lots of trees around. Not a bad walk. After a summer of Minor League games, we had a short "deer in the headlights"moment upon seeing the masses of people, but then baseball fever set in, and all was right again in the world.

We did manage to get a hotel room for the night, and settled in to our "staying in hotels" routine: watching Forensic Files. We are pretty much experts now on solving any kind of crime with nothing at the scene but a smeared fingerprint and a 10 year old tissue!

The next day found us in the Atlanta Zoo! I managed to get Pat to join me in the Parakeet Aviary, but he drew the line at the Petting Zoo. I, myself, find goats rather cute. They even let you brush them, but I didn't want to take a brush away from a small child. There is always next time.
Pat did take this awesome picture of the Aldabra tortoise. The sign on the fence told us that there isn't much information yet as to their life expectancy, because they have been outliving their keepers. Maybe living in the 21st Century will help with keeping past journal entries available to the next generation of observers.

Our last stop in the zoo was the "Living Tree House". One of the birds was seated right above the entrance. We got lucky, but consider yourselves warned.

A quick "Honey, I shrank the kids" moment, and we were ready to head back to Montgomery.

Thank you for traveling with me today!

Until next time,

"Moving to the Country...

...gonna eat a lot of peaches..."

And we did! Within an hour of arriving in Montgomery we had been told that peaches from Georgia can't hold a candle to the local ones from Chilton County. This weekend, we went to check out that claim. We visited Durbin Farms, located right along I-65 under a giant peach - which apparently is only visible from the highway. If we ever find it while not driving, I will take a picture and post it. Promise!
For now, we had to make do with the portable sized fruits.

Mountains and mountains upon peaches, in all shapes, forms, and sizes. Naturally, we started with the peach ice cream on top of a peach cobbler. Forget visions of sugar plums, I shall be dreaming about this forever.

As an added bonus, Durbin Farms also sells Scuppernong Cider. I now have proof that it is a real thing, and yummy!

During our travels this weekend, we also came across a flea market in Wetumpka, AL. It wasn't quite the kind of flea market I remember from Germany with old, handmade furniture, boxes full of books, Lederhosen worn by David Hasselhoff, etc. This one had different kind of wares on offer. If you are ever in need of wood-carved squirrels, household cleaners, or, let's say, peacocks, let me know. I will be able to point you in the right direction. Fear not, if you were to get hungry. That is also taken care of in Wetumpka.

Thank you for traveling with me today!
Until next time,
Nadine
