Wind Creek State Park near Alexander City was to be our destination. On our way, we were tempted to get an eye exam, because the place offered Free Go-Kart Rides with every eye exam. I am still hoping that the free ride will depend on the result of the exam.
Onward we went. In Wetumpka, we came across a billboard advertising God's Time Plan - 6 April 2032. The website doesn't offer much insight, unless you download the brochure. I'm not brave enough to click on that just yet, but it is tempting me with "More than you ever thought you would know about the return of the Lord". Every little tidbit of information is more than I ever though I would know. So, I'm ahead then, right?
Travel Advisory: Don't let the name fool you! Eclectic, Alabama has a Dollar General and a road. Stay on that road. Don't stop to look for eclectic little shops, or even just something to eat. I feel this is a real shame. The people of Eclectic are wasting a unique marketing chance. The ads would basically write themselves. If they had a town newspaper, I would write a letter to the editor.
We finally made it to the park, and were not disappointed! The empty playground was the cherry on top!
Our next idea involved hiking for almost 3 hours through the forest. I never thought I would so quickly come to dislike elevation changes again. We were rewarded with beautiful vistas and no other humans inside a 3-mile radius. I guess elevation changes aren't so bad after all.
And look who waited patiently for us, ready to take us home.
Thank you for traveling with me today!
Until next time,
Nadine
That looks like a fun weekend trip! If you keep up these good posts, I will know all about Alabama by the time I get to visit you.
ReplyDeleteWe had a good weekend too. We went to H&8th for dinner, then to the gardens for Shakespeare in the Park, and had a birthday swim party at the Y.
It seems like I'm not doing so well on the reply side of things. How did you manage to eat dinner at H&8th? The lines were always so long, I usually brought a granola bar just to make it to the front.
